Board and scientific advisors
The board brings key competency in strategy, diagnostics, medtech development and business growth to Symcel. Alongside the Board, the leadership team works with clinical advisors as well as a large group of scientists and experts within each key application.

Dr. Patrik Dahlen
Board member
Patrik is a seasoned life science executive within international medtech and diagnostics business. He brings of wealth of executive and operational experience to Symcel, supporting Board work and the Leadership team in strategic, business and diagnostic plans and decision making.
Patrik previously served as CEO of SSI Diagnostica A/S, Immunovia, Dako, NeuroSearch as well as numerous other executive experiences in the US and Europe. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry from Turku University in Finland.

Board member
Erik has a long successful track record in building international medtech and life science companies. He has led global launches of novel technologies, established and restructured companies, and successfully closed private placements and IPOs. He supports Symcel management and Board with business and strategic advice.
Erik was the CEO of Gyros, Affibody Holding, Biacore International and Pyrosequencing as well as an executive of the US-based PerSeptive Biosystems Inc and numerous other companies.

Board member
Stefan is an independent advisor in health care and life sciences, and a senior advisor to Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He supports the Symcel leadership team and Board work with health care, diagnostic, strategic and management advice.
Stefan previously worked for 24 years at BCG where he was the founder and first global leader of the firm’s health care payers and providers sector and its health care systems sector. He is the cofounder and Chairman of ICHOM and co-author of the book The Patient Priority. He is an Associate Professor at the Karolinska Institute, from where he has his MD and PhD.

Stefan has over 30 years of experience within the life sciences tools industry. He brings scientific and development advice to the leadership team and within the Board work. Stefan has held executive positions within Pharmacia Biosensor, Biacore and GE Healthcare. Previously the Science Director and CSO at GE Healthcare bio-sciences as well as Biacore. He has a strong track record in industrial R&D within protein analysis and bioprocess tools and holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Uppsala University.

Carl-Johan is a senior advisor at Flerie Invest, one of Symcels major shareholders. He supports Symcel with strategic, business and sector advice. He has held several positions in pharma companies and has served as director in Flerie companies since 2012. He currently serves as director of several drug development and medtech companies, among them Atrogi, EpiEndo, Lipum and Xspray Pharma.
Carl-Johan had a long career within Recipharm, one of the leading CDMOs in the pharma space, where he started in 1995. He holds a PhD in pharmacology and cariology from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.

Leif has a successful track record as a property developer, entrepreneurial executive and company developer. He is the founder and Chairman Areim AB. Leif is one of Symcels main shareholders and brings business, financial and strategic advice to the Board work. Leif holds a MSc degree in Real Estate and Economics from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and an Executive MBA from the Stockholm School of Economics.

Björn is a serial entrepreneur and investor with over 30 years of experience within the life sciences. He has overseen Symcels development since its early days and brings management, strategic and operational advice to the leadership and board work.
Björn has held numerous executive and board positions within life science, including as CEO at Flemmingsberg Science, Lightlab, Innovationsbron. Björn holds a PhD in Physics at Uppsala University.

Christian is Professor of Clinical Bacteriology at the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. His research focus on antimicrobial resistance and the use of novel diagnostic tools in clinical microbiology. He did his medical training at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. He has been working at the Karolinska University Laboratory at Karolinska University Hospital since 2002, where he is currently a senior consultant in clinical bacteriology. Giske is also a consulting physician at the Swedish Center of Disease Control and the previous chairman of EUCAST.

Kyle is the Vice Chair of Research & Director of Translational Research at the Hughston Clinic in Georgia in the US. He received his undergraduate degree in both Biology and Chemistry with a minor in Physics while playing football (QB) at the University of South Dakota, in Vermillion, SD. He attended medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine pursuing orthopaedic surgery before receiving his Doctor of Philosophy in Immunology, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). At Hughston Clinic, he works closely with physicians and surgeons continuing his translational research focusing on disorders and diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system, while continuing to expand upon clinical research to improve patient care. Clinically, his interests include infection prevention, diagnostics and outcomes research in all subspecialties of orthopaedic surgery.
